POPULATION: 22 (2006)

LOCATION: On the Hope Highway 7 miles southeast of Hope at the mouth of Sixmile Creek on the south shore of Turnagain Arm, about 80 road miles southeast of Anchorage.

DESCRIPTION: A retirement and seasonal community where only nine of the 25 homes are used year-round. Some mining still occurs in the area. Sunrise is accessible by a road, the Hope Cutoff, from the Seward Highway. A gravel airstrip is available at Hope.

HISTORY: "Sunrise City" was a mining town, founded around 1895. A post office was established in 1899 but discontinued in 1918.
