TIN FOIL BRIGADE ... From those guys in Juneau: "JR 4: Electromagnetic Pulse Attack Defense. Sponsored by House Rules by Request of the Armed Services Committee. Relating to defending the state from electromagnetic pulse attacks."

The publication date of a new book about Gov. Sarah Palin is May 1, and may coincide with the arrival of her new baby.

SARADISE ... Our governor is on schedule for two great expectations next month -- Palin No. 5 from the governor herself, and a biography of her from Epicenter Press: "SARAH: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down," by Kaylene Johnson. Isn't this the book former Anchorage Press writer Amanda Coyne started but lost interest in?
In addition to the cover photo above, word is there's quite the photo inside of our future gov sitting on her dorm room bed looking babealicious and sporting a T-shirt that says, "I may be broke, but I'm not flat busted."
Publication date is May 1 and, yes, word of Sarah's coming baby was received in time for the book to be revised appropriately. Looks like book and baby might arrive simultaneously.
Speaking of the blessed event, word around Juneau is one of the kids has told friends it's a boy. Hey, 50-50, that's right.
ON THE MOVE ... Ear hears KTUU state politics reporter Bill McAllister has given notice. McAllister is a master of the machinations in Juneau and will be missed. Leaving a plum assignment with the biggest station in the market? Ear can hardly wait to see what lured him away.
Friday was Lori Thomson's last day as managing editor of the Juneau Empire. She's been there forever. Friends say she has a new baby she wants to get to know.
SPEAKING OF ... KTUU, someone gave Ear a copy of the sale contract with Schurz Communications Inc., the Indiana company that's buying the station. It's 44 pages long. Says the selling price is $26 million. Says the new owners agree to offer "substantially equivalent employment" to not fewer than a "minimum number" of employees, defined as the total number minus 45. No, Ear has no idea what that all means except no one would be dumb enough to spend that much money, then mess with an award-winning team. Would they?
ON THE MOVE 2 ... Earwigs report Josh Fink, head of the Office of Public Advocacy, was let go last Friday. Ear suspected someone finally noticed he was a Murkowski holdover, but is told it was something else. Fink had little experience when he got the job and people were skeptical. But he surprised everyone by changing the system in a way that almost eliminated the need to hire private lawyers in criminal cases in which his office had a conflict, thus saving the state zillions.
Okay, maybe not zillions.
And yes, since you asked, he is one of Tom's kids.
GOT A MAP? ... Norwegian Cruise Line mailed a lovely color brochure to American Express customers advertising their "wild adventures" Alaska cruises this summer. But Ear is a little concerned about getting on a big boat run by someone who put out the following itinerary: "Round-trip from Seattle, Washington: Ketchikan, Alaska Juneau, Alaska Skagway, Alaska Prince Rupert, Alaska ..."
