FAIRBANKS -- Former Iditarod Sled Dog Race champion Jeff King has formally pleaded not guilty to killing a moose within Denali National Park.He is seeking a jury trial.
Bethel attorney Myron Angstman entered the plea for King by telephone Friday in U.S. District Court in Fairbanks.
King is attending his daughter's college graduation in Minnesota. He participated in the hearing by telephone.
The 51-year-old King has won the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race four times.
Park rangers say King shot a young bull moose on September 6th about three-quarters of a mile inside the northeast boundary of the park.
They say he used a four-wheeler to transport bones a short distance from the kill site.
