So few applicants sought permits for two moose hunts in game management unit 21E along the middle Yukon that the application period has been extended to Aug. 22.

The first hunt, labeled DM837, includes 48 permits and is limited to nonguided nonresidents. Most of the permits are still available.

The second, labeled DM839, includes 12 permits and is for nonresidents hunting with a licensed guide. Most of those permits are available too.

Hunters can take one 50-inch antlered moose between Sept. 5 and Sept. 20.

Applications must be received by fax at (907) 459-7332. Applications can be downloaded at www.hunt.alaska.gov under the heading "Misc. Applications and Forms."
