Mark Abrell, 50, was convicted of first-degree sexual assault in December for the 2005 attack, Adrienne Bachman said. Abrell was already a registered sex offender at the time of the rape -- he was convicted in 1982 on multiple sexual assault counts. The victims in both attacks were strangers, Bachman said.

In 2005, Abrell raped a woman in a wooded area off Dimond Boulevard, according to prosecutors. A video surveillance camera caught Abrell and the victim on tape just prior to the attack, and the state crime lab used DNA evidence to confirm his identity, prosecutors said.

On Friday, Judge John Suddock sentenced Abrell to 35 years in prison with 10 suspended, Bachman said.
