A program began this week to reimburse property owners for making their homes more energy-efficient.
The new program by the Alaska Housing Finance Corp. supplements a long-running weatherization effort available to residents who earn up to the state's median income.
The rebate program comes amid quickly rising energy prices.
The state agency will pay up to $500 for an assessment of a home's energy rating. It also will pay rebates of up to $10,000 to homeowners who improve the energy efficiency of their homes, the agency said. If that isn't enough to cover the improvement costs, AHFC also is offering loans of up to $30,000.
