BARROW -- Gov. Sarah Palin has appointed Michael Jeffery as a Superior Court judge in Barrow.
Jeffery is one of two judges who lost their places on the bench when they failed to properly file paperwork for a retention election. Jeffery applied for the position again, and Palin announced this week that he is her choice to fill the seat again.
Jeffery, 63, has lived in Barrow for 31 years. He graduated from Stanford University and Yale Law School, and has specialized training in alcohol and drug addiction and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, the governor's office said in a prepared statement.
"The people of Barrow and the Alaska judicial system will be well-served by his expertise and passion for the law," Palin said.
Jeffery and his wife, Esther, have three grown children. The family does commercial setnet fishing each summer near Dillingham.
