A 33-year-old Washington state man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his crewmates on a fishing vessel near Kodiak, the Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers took Shane Flemens, of Wenatchee, Wash., into custody on Wednesday.
Troopers say Flemens was aboard the Kilokak south of Afognak Island, in Izhut Bay, when he entered the galley of the boat Wednesday morning and attacked three crewmates with an 8-inch knife.
First, he allegedly tried to stab Robert Lindsey, 20. Flemens then turned to Daniel Courchaine, 19, pushed him to the ground, and began stabbing him in the chest and throat, troopers say.
When the captain of the boat, Vitomir Kalcic, 65, heard the men screaming he raced into the galley and Flemens also tried to stab him also, troopers say.
Troopers did not release information on the motive for the attack.
Courchaine sustained the most severe injuries. The knife went through to his lungs, troopers said. He was taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Flemens was also charged with multiple counts of assault.
