QUINHAGAK -- The body of a 2-year-old boy who drowned in the Kanektok River early this month was discovered on the north shore of Kuskokwim Bay on Wednesday, according to Alaska State Troopers.
A Yute Air pilot spotted the child's body at 4:35 p.m. about five miles north of the mouth of the river, troopers said.
The boy fell into the river about four miles upstream from the village of Quinhagak the afternoon of June 1. He had been picnicking with his family at the time and was not wearing a life jacket, troopers said.
The boy's body was recovered and returned to his family.
Troopers did not identify the child or his family.
