Two men were rescued from a beach in Porcupine Cove near Resurrection Bay early this morning after being stranded for a day, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Fred Ferrieoa of Anchorage and his passenger Richard Willard ended up on the beach after their 17-foot skiff ran aground and was swamped by waves Wednesday. The men had a hand-held radio, but the batteries were low and they weren't able to call for help.
A fishing vessel, the Natoa, radioed the Coast Guard for them at about 5:30 a.m. this morning.
The men were flown to Seward, where their journey originated. Both were in good condition.
