BUTTE -- An Alaska State Troopers helicopter landed along the Knik River east of Palmer on Monday afternoon to rescue a 58-year-old man who was injured when his all-terrain vehicle crashed.
Troopers said they got a call from Robert Mann, 58, of Wasilla, at about 11:15 a.m. He told them he had been involved in an accident and needed help, troopers said. He was near Wolf Point, about 13 miles up the Knik River, troopers said.
The Butte Volunteer Fire Department responded and aided Mann until the helicopter arrived, troopers said.
That happened at 2:30 p.m., according to Clint Vardeman, deputy emergency services director for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Medics got the man to the helicopter at 3:15 p.m.
According to dispatch logs, Mann didn't lose consciousness but did injure his chest and right shoulder, and was having trouble breathing, Vardeman said.
Troopers flew him to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment.
