It was unveiled Monday in Peratrovich Park.

The sculpture is named "Flight of the Raven." City officials say it was designed by Roy Peratrovich Jr. to honor his parents and the progress they made for Alaska Natives.

City officials said at Monday's dedication the Peratroviches were the driving force behind the passage of the Alaska's Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945. They started by petitioning for a ban on the "No Natives Allowed" signs then common in Anchorage, Juneau and elsewhere.

The act was signed in 1945 by Gov. Ernest Gruening.

Elizabeth Peratrovich died in 1958 . In 1988, the Alaska Legislature declared Feb. 16 -- the day in 1945 when the Anti-Discrimination Act passed -- as Elizabeth Peratrovich Day to memorialize her civil rights contributions.
