A mother accused of nearly killing her 20-year-old daughter by drunkenly driving a pickup over the younger woman early Friday morning in Grayling has been charged with first-degree assault, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers say Maidie Maillelle got behind the wheel of the 2004 Ford just after midnight -- minutes after her 49th birthday.
Her daughter protested, saying she was too drunk to drive, but Maillelle didn't heed the warning, troopers said.
"The mother said, 'Get out of my way or I'll run you over,' " troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said.
The daughter, Tammy Maillelle, suffered severe, life-threatening injuries when run over by the three-quarter-ton pickup, Ipsen said. She was medevacked to Bethel and stabilized, then flown to the Alaska Native Medical Center for surgery, Ipsen said. An update on her condition was not immediately available.
Maidi Maillelle also has been charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. She was booked at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center and was being held without bail until her arraignment.
