WASILLA -- A 16-year-old girl was killed this morning when she turned onto the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and collided with a pickup.
Alaska State Troopers reported that Ramy M. Olson of Palmer died in the crash that happened about 8:45 a.m. Troopers said she was driving a Volkswagen Beetle north on Acorn Street, stopped and then turned west on the highway, where she was hit by a Ford F-250 pickup driven by David R. Cravy, 39, of Wasilla.
Cravy and two passengers were wearing seat belts and suffered only minor bruises, according to troopers. Ramy was also wearing a seat belt.
The Palmer-Wasilla Highway, considered by traffic engineers to be one of the most dangerous in the state, has been under construction at four locations this summer for installation of traffic lights, though none is planned for the Acorn intersection.
