The body of a 35-year-old soldier recently stationed at Fort Richardson was found beneath the A Street/C Street bridge connecting downtown to Government Hill on Friday morning, Anchorage police said.
Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play, and investigators believe the man, who has not yet been named pending notification of the next of kin, either fell or jumped from the bridge.
The soldier had recently returned from Iraq, according to Fort Richardson spokesman Chuck Canterbury.
Investigators from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division are awaiting the results of an autopsy from the state medical examiner's office.
Police said the man was last seen at a 3rd Avenue business about 11 p.m. Thursday. Road crew workers noticed his body around 9:30 a.m.
