CREEKSIDE: Site plan sets aside 772 parking spaces for the company.
A site plan for Creekside Town Square, a shopping center being built in Wasilla, lists Costco as the potential tenant for a 153,474-square-foot building planned for construction on the Parks Highway in Wasilla.
The building, a large anchor for the shopping center, is simply marked "wholesale." A gas station is depicted in one corner of that parking lot, and the building includes amenities like a tire center and food-service area.
It's in a side note, under "Parking Data," that the lot is listed as Costco, with 772 parking spaces.
Calls to Meritage Development Group and to Costco's real estate office were not returned in time for this story.
The Wasilla Planning Commission will consider at its 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday whether to erase part of a road, South Maney Drive, to make way for construction of the large building and parking area.
A new version of Maney Drive is already in place east of Sportsman's Warehouse. According to the site plan, part of South Maney Drive will be used as a private driveway to access the wholesale building and other retail stores on the Creekside property.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Platting Board is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the development application on Aug. 21.
