Halloween robber sentenced to federal prison

Kendra Butts, one of the infamous "trick-or-treat bandits," was sentenced Wednesday in federal court for agreeing to cover up evidence in the truck police say she and others used while robbing trick-or-treaters at gunpoint in Talkeetna last year.

She will serve six months in federal prison, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.

Butts, 19, still faces sentencing on a state robbery charge for the incident in which she and another woman, Amber Martin, got out of a car wearing ski masks, shot into the air and held up seven children on Halloween night, stealing their candy.

Police arrested the women and others linked to the truck they'd been riding in. One of the people linked to the truck, Michael Wilson, was a convicted felon.

Authorities recorded a call he made to Butts from jail, in which he asked her to remove guns from the truck or to set fire to the truck so evidence could not be used against him in a federal case.

She agreed but never did it. She was charged with one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Butts and Martin are scheduled to be sentenced on the robbery charges in state court in Palmer on August 26.
