A thunderstorm passing through this afternoon sparked a small brush fire in South Anchorage, according to the fire department.
The fire, burning off Canyon Road, started when lighting struck some brush on the outskirts of the Chugach Mountains, firefighters said.
Several Anchorage Fire Department units were on the scene this evening battling the blaze, and the state Division of Forestry had been notified, they said.
The division was planning a flyover Friday morning, officials said.
