A forger was sentenced to six years in prison for cashing two fraudulent checks and attempting to cash a third one, according to prosecutors.
Diane Pickens, 44, was convicted of trying to cash the checks,, which belonged to her ex-boyfriend, prosecutors said.
During her sentencing hearing, Judge Patrick McKay said he considered Pickens a manipulative woman with little chance of rehabilitation in light of her nearly 30 prior criminal convictions, prosecutors said.
McKay issued a special finding that a prison sentence was needed to protect the public from Pickens; the finding allowed him to exceed the otherwise maximum sentence of five years for the crimes, prosecutors said.
Pickens was also sentenced to an additional 11 months in prison for violating her probation in another case, according to prosecutors.
