GALENA -- A 2-year-old boy from Galena was rushed to Anchorage for medical treatment Saturday after he was run over by a truck driven by his grandmother.
Galena police said the boy was expected to recover.
"Last information, he will probably be released (today)," said John Millan, the Galena police chief.
Millan didn't identify the grandmother. He said the accident was "unavoidable" and didn't involve alcohol or unsafe driving.
The boy was hiding from his grandmother who searched for him in the yard and then got into the truck to continue the search. When she was backing up, she heard a thud. She got out and the boy was lying on his side on the ground behind the truck, Millan said.
"It (appears) he ran into a tire and it spun him down on the gravel," he said.
The grandmother took him to the local clinic. Due to concern about a possible collapsed lung, he was airlifted to Anchorage, and was expected to stay in the hospital overnight, Millan said.
