What: A $937,389 renovation of Palmer's post office, according to Hugh Roche, a U.S. Postal Service contracting officer in Denver. A leaky roof triggered the project, said Darus Machy, USPS marketing manager in Anchorage. Crews are replacing the roof, as well as exterior siding, plus re-sealing and striping the parking lot.
The biggest change customers might see, however, has to do with the drop-off boxes. Historically in front of the building, they will be in back. That's because customers kept running into the curb with the previous alignment of boxes and driveway, Machy said. Plus when postal employees came out to clear mail from the boxes, they faced traffic and that posed safety concerns, she said.
Who: General contractor is Consolidated Enterprises, of Anchorage,
Where: 500 S. Cobb St.
Why: Two words: leaky roof. Plus the whole curb-hitting problem.
When: The job is expected to be finished by the end of September, Roche said.
