EIELSON AFB -- A Fairbanks airman has pleaded guilty to a count of possessing child pornography, according to the Alaska Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Senior airman Jeremy Russell, 23, pleaded guilty to the charge in military court last Wednesday and was sentenced to one year in prison, reduction to the lowest enlisted rank and to receive a bad conduct discharge when his sentence is complete, said Anchorage police detective Sgt. Ron Tidler, commander of the task force.
Russell will also be required to register as a sex offender, he said.
The case was initiated in 2006 after Anchorage police detective Kevin Vandegriff spotted a user later identified as Russell downloading child pornography on a peer-to-peer filing-sharing Web site, Tidler said. Investigators seized Russell's computer and subsequently discovered dozens of illegal pornographic images on it, he said.
