GALENA -- An aircraft crash-landed in a swampy area near Galena after its engine died in mid flight and left its pilot with minor injuries, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Cessna 207, piloted by Howard Nugent, departed Wasilla Saturday and went down about 4 p.m. after its engine began sputtering, spokesman Clint Johnson said.
The engine finally quit entirely, forcing the hard landing, he said. Nugent suffered minor injuries and was picked up by the Alaska Air National Guard. The co-owner of Nugent Equipment was treated and released from an Anchorage hospital, Johnson said.
Arrangements were being made to recover the aircraft so that it could be examined, he said.
