Thomas Lewis Jr. was reported missing Friday morning. He was due back from a three-day halibut fishing trip on Thursday, said Scott Giard, Coast Guard search planner.

The Coast Guard found Lewis' 32-foot boat with its motor running. It had run aground at Cape Fanshaw, about 30 miles northwest of Petersburg. There was no sign of Lewis.

Search dogs detected no scent of the man within a half-mile of his boat, making searchers believe that the boat ran around without him and that he is in the water, another Coast Guard spokesman, Lt. Chris Williammee said. The search was to resume this morning.
