Several hundred Chugach Electric Association customers in South Anchorage lost power for about six hours Wednesday when a vehicle took out a utility pole.
The vehicle struck the pole in the area of the Old Seward Highway and Dennis Way just after 3 p.m., then fled the area before officials arrived on scene, said Chugach spokeswoman Patti Bogan.
"What happened then was it tripped a breaker at the Hillside substation," she said.
There are 1,022 customers on that feeder who momentarily lost power, she said.
However, 324 customers in the Old Seward, Goldenview, Rabbit Creek and DeArmoun areas suffered blackouts that lasted until about 9:30 p.m., she said. A few other customers had outages for longer than that, but power was fully restored to everyone by early Thursday, she said.
