LOCATION: Along the Richardson Highway south of Glennallen on the west bank of the Copper River just west of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
DESCRIPTION: A community whose economy is based on local services and businesses, National Park Service offices and highway-related tourism. Two RV parks and three river-boat-charter services operate from nearby Copper Center. Roughly one in eight residents is wholly or partly Alaska Native, and many of them depend on subsistence hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering.
