CRAIG -- A long-term undercover investigation into an illegal guiding operation culminated Thursday when the suspect pleaded no contest to a single count of guiding without a license, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Kenneth Quigley, 44, of Craig was charged following the intensive investigation by wildlife troopers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that included an undercover guided black bear hunt on Prince of Wales Island, troopers said.
Quigley took the plea in exchange for the state dropping other charges, troopers said.
He was sentenced to 180 days of suspended jail time and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution and a $5,000 fine. The rest of the $30,000 fine was suspended.
A boat used during the hunt was seized by the state and Quigley will not be allowed to be licensed in any capacity in the big game industry for five years. He lost his hunting privileges for one year.
