OLD HARBOR -- An aggressive bear in downtown Old Harbor was shot and killed by the village public safety officer after it refused to leave, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The bear was shot Wednesday about 7 p.m. when the officer responded to reports of the bear being aggressive, troopers said. The officer shot at the bear to scare it off but was unable to, troopers said.
The bear was then killed in defense of life and property, troopers said.
