TRAPPER CREEK -- A head-on collision on the Parks Highway on Thursday night left one man dead and sent three others to hospitals, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers say heavy snowfall and slick roads contributed to the crash that killed Fairbanks resident Climie Douglas, 29.
The crash at Mile 133 took place at about 9:30 p.m., when the vehicle Douglas was a passenger in, a 2007 Ford, skidded out of the southbound lane on a curve and collided with a northbound vehicle, troopers said.
The driver, Blessing Wallace, 22, of Fairbanks, was pinned in the vehicle with Douglas and had to be extricated by medics, troopers said.
Douglas died on the way to the hospital, and Wallace was flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, troopers said.
The northbound vehicle, a 2004 Ford commercial utility vehicle, was driven by Anchorage resident Charles L. Patterson, 37, troopers said. He and his passenger were transported to Mat-Su Regional Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, troopers said.
Patterson's vehicle was extensively damaged and Wallace's was totaled. All the occupants appeared to have been wearing their seat belts, troopers said. The investigation is continuing.
