DILLINGHAM -- A stranded tug boat on the Wood River near Aleknagik was refloated Wednesday after spending more than a week aground, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Crowley Marine Services tug Twi-lite had been stuck near Aleknagik since Oct. 7, when it hit bottom while pushing a barge upriver, the Coast Guard said.
The vessel's hull was breached, causing thousands of gallons of water to flood the engine room. Crews worked first removing the fuel from the vessel, then patching the hull and pumping water out of it.
After being refloated, the Twi-lite was towed to Aleknagik Lake, where Crowley officials were to take it to their property to conduct permanent repairs.
There were no injuries.
