FAIRBANKS -- A grizzly bear seen roaming about 30 miles north of Fairbanks apparently isn't ready to hibernate yet.
A lodge owner in the Chatanika area says he saw the bear behind the lodge last week. Fresh tracks were seen this week.
Chatanika Lodge owner Ron Franklin says the bear hasn't stirred up any trouble nor has it gotten into any food. Still, Franklin says, having a bear in the area this time of the year can be unsettling.
Franklin says the bear could only be in the area for one reason -- it's still hungry.
An Alaska Department of Fish and Game spokeswoman says the agency has received no reports about the bear, but adds she's not surprised.
She says it's possible some large male bears may still be roaming.
