CHUGIAK -- The state fire marshal's office has identified the man killed Sunday in a Peters Creek apartment fire as Leroy "Lee" Levshakoff, 62.
The fire displaced nearly a dozen others after breaking out in the 21300 block of Songbird Drive at about 4 p.m. Firefighters fought the blaze for more than an hour before getting control of it, but the building was considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Samples were being tested at a laboratory and insurance representatives are examining the scene, said assistant state fire marshal Kelly Nicolello.
He confirmed the fire started in Levshakoff's apartment but said investigators are examining between two and three possible causes. None of those was being labeled suspicious, he said.
