Ditch-diving vehicles are lining the Glenn Highway Friday as roads remain slick from a Christmas-day snow, according to Anchorage police.
As of 1:30 p.m. police were reporting 56 vehicles in distress across town, with 15 more accidents and another three accidents with injuries, though they were all relatively minor, police said.
"Kind of scattered all about town, but it's mainly the Glenn Highway," police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. "It's got vehicles in the ditch all the way down."
A sizeable chunk of vehicles were along the Glenn from Eagle River to Chugiak, she said.
Anchorage saw 7 1/2 inches of snow on Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service. The Anchorage end of Turnagain Arm had been under a blizzard warning through today, but that was canceled. Eastern Turnagain Arm and western Prince William Sound, including Seward and Whittier, remain under a blizzard warning until 4 p.m. today.
"Whittier's been getting some pretty good winds, gusts of up to 75 miles per hour," National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Foisy said this morning.
Police were urging drivers to slow down and to increase their intervals between each other
