Walrus-parts seller pleads guilty

A Togiak man has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act by illegally transporting and selling walrus parts, according to the U.S. attorney.

Prosecutors say Roy D. Petersen Jr., 27, was involved in transporting and selling a walrus head mount, tusk and jawbone.

Petersen is facing a maximum of one year in prison, five years on probation and a $100,000 fine at his sentencing scheduled for March 6, prosecutors said.
