A 12-year-old Wasilla boy critically injured in a fire Wednesday that killed his brother remains hospitalized.
Alaska State Troopers identified the surviving boy as Noble Cedar "Vincent" Woods. His condition improved Friday, family friends said. Providence Alaska Medical Center was not releasing any information at the family's request, a hospital spokeswoman said.
A passer-by dragged Woods from the burning trailer he shared with his mother and brother on South Sylvan Lane near Wasilla, troopers said. The intensity of the fire prevented the man and a companion from rescuing 9-year-old Bryce "Anthony" Woods, whose body was found near the front door, they said. The boys' mother was not home at the time.
Troopers still hope to speak with the two good Samaritans who came upon the fire, spokeswoman Megan Peters said.
Investigators have not determined the fire's cause.
The boys' mother, Jennifer Woods, worked nights cleaning offices, said family friend Cammeron Edwards. Woods "has been working really hard" to support her family, Edwards said.
