Anchorage radio personality Camille Conte, known to listeners as "CC," has been named 2008's "Most Valuable Local Media Personality" by John Nichols, who hosts a blog on the Web site of The Nation magazine.
Conte's daily talk show, "The Cutting Edge," airs on KUDO AM-1080. She has previously won several local and national awards, including the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Award for mid-size market personality in 1991.
"When Sarah Palin stumbled onto the national stage," Nichols wrote in his Dec. 31 posting, Conte "steered the discussion toward Troopergate -- the scandal that proved Palin was not the reformer her supporters claimed but a Cheney-esque abuser of power. ... No one else contributed as much to 2008's Palintological studies."
Nichols' list of the "Most Valuable Progressives of 2008" also included Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
The Nation magazine has a long history of supporting liberal causes. It was once edited by Ernest Gruening, who later became Alaska's governor, then senator.
