An Anchorage man, Lance Cpl. Grant B. Fraser, 22, was among the U.S. Marines killed on Wednesday when their combat vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb south of Haditha, Iraq, the Defense Department reported this morning.
Fraser was part of the Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
He attended Atheneum middle school and Service High School in Anchorage.
His family remains in Anchorage.
Fourteen Marines and a civilian translator were reported killed in the thunderous blast, said to be the deadliest roadside bombing yet suffered by American forces in the war. They were riding in lightly armored amphibious assault vehicle.
Fraser was among troops attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, the Defense Department said.
