KOLIGANEK -- A floatplane crash-landed on the tundra about six miles northeast of Koliganek this week but no one was injured, Alaska State Troopers said Friday.
Troopers said the aircraft, piloted by Anchorage resident Kirk Gay, 65, lost power on its way back to a lodge on Six Mile Lake about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Gay and another fishing guide had flown two clients into the area to fish the Nushagak River, troopers said.
The aircraft's engine stalled, forcing Gay into an emergency landing. Although there were no injuries, the aircraft's floats were badly damaged, troopers said.
Gay used a satellite phone to call the Iliamna Air Taxi Service, which alerted authorities.
The men were picked up at about 4:30 p.m. by a helicopter donated by Pebble Mine and returned to the lodge that evening, troopers said.
