A Kasilof woman was killed and two people were injured in a head-on collision that closed the Sterling Highway near Kasilof for more than two hours Thursday evening, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers identified the fatally injured woman as Linda Honeycutt, 52. She was driving one of the two vehicles involved, said troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.
Daniel Cox, 64, of Eagle River, was one of the two injured people, Peters said. The other was a Hawaii resident, apparently a passenger in Cox’s car. Troopers were unsure of that person’s name Thursday evening, she said.
Cox and his passenger were airlifted to Central Peninsula General Hospital, Peters said. Their conditions were not available Thursday night.
The crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. at Mile 106.7 of the Sterling, roughly 10 miles south of Soldotna and not far from Kasilof, Peters said.
The highway was soon closed and not fully opened until about 8 p.m., she said. Troopers were continuing to investigate Thursday evening and had not determined why the head-on crash happened, said Peters.
