Two soldiers from Alaska were among four killed in Iraq on Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee, the U.S. Department of Defense said today.

Staff Sgt. Carletta S. Davis, 34, of Anchorage and Sgt. Derek T. Stenroos, 24, of North Pole were serving with a unit from Fort Drum, N.Y., post spokesmen said in a written statement. They died during combat operations in Tal Al-Dahab, Iraq.
Davis was assigned to the 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry). Stenroos was assigned to the 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
Davis was a health care specialist, according to the statement from Fort Drum. She joined the Army in October 1994. Her first assignment was with Company B, Area Support Medical Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas.
Davis also served at Camp Casey, South Korea, and was assigned to Fort Drum in April 2007.
Stenroos was a military policeman. He joined the Army in January 2004 and was assigned to the 1st Brigade in June 2004.
Also killed were Pfc. Adam J. Muller, 21, of Underhill, Vt., and Staff Sgt. John D. Linde, 30, of New York City.
Both Alaska soldiers were deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, in September with the rest of the 1st Brigade Combat Team to conduct stability and security operations, the statement from Fort Drum said. It was the unit’s second deployment in Iraq, following a year’s duty in West Baghdad from June 2005 until June 2006.
Davis is survived by her husband, three sons and mother, the base statement said.
Stenroos is survived by his mother and father.
