Efforts to mop up a 10-acre fire that broke out in the Campbell Creek greenbelt continued Thursday, a day after the blaze broke out.
The fire, reported Wednesday afternoon, was completely contained by early Thursday, though more than 45 firefighters from the Anchorage Fire Department and the state Division of Forestry remained on the scene dousing hot spots through the day, said fire department spokeswoman Jen Klugh.
Those efforts are likely to continue through today, she said. Two Type II crews replaced a group of smoke jumpers on the ground there, but the aerial attack on the fire had ended, Klugh said.
The Anchorage Fire Department says it suspects the blaze broke out when a fire at a homeless camp got out of control. A fire department investigator was on the scene Thursday looking into the cause.
