ANCHORAGE -- Signs identifying four distinct downtown districts were put up recently.

The districts are:

• SoNo -- south of Nordstrom;

• Arts -- G Street arts and gift shops;

• Historic -- 4th Avenue Theater and the old Federal Building;

• Convention -- the under-construction Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and the Egan Center.

The idea of branding different parts of town came from a group of business owners who wanted to carve a niche for their businesses south of Nordstrom, city officials said in a press release.

Mayor Mark Begich, downtown Assemblyman Patrick Flynn and a group of downtown business owners unveiled the new signs Thursday.
