FAIRBANKS -- The University of Alaska Board of Regents has approved a Ph.D. program in indigenous studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
One goal of the program is to "address a shortage of Alaska Natives with advanced degrees," according to a University of Alaska press release. The program was developed in collaboration with Native groups. The board also approved new graduate certificates for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Those are for: counselor education; environmental regulation and permitting; and earthquake engineering. A new certificate in health-pre-nursing was also approved for the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
