Most biologists don't try counting fish when temperatures drop. But locating where juvenile Chinook overwinter in Portage Valley was the mission for three UAA students in a new Exploration Ecology class. Students chipped holes in creek and pond ice and discovered juvenile Chinook in North Fork Williwaw Pond, a significant finding in light of declining Chinook in upper Cook Inlet.
