Scott speaks -- Gomez, on his return to Aces

Just got off the phone with Scott Gomez, who is in Las Vegas with the Alaska Aces, who he just signed with today.

Here's some of what he said about signing with the club after initially saying in September and October that he didn't think he would play with Alaska again -- remember, he played with the Aces during the 2004-05 lockout.

"Just practicing (in training camp) got the competitive juices flowing. It was just time. I still love the game, still love playing and being back home. It was tough watching at the Sullivan. It was a decision I couldn't hold off any longer. I wanted to play. It's what we do.''

"And the chance to play in front of family and friends again was just too much.''

"I play hockey, and I want to play.''

"I have to get my feel back for the game, and that's what games provide.''

Goals? "First of all, to win. That's always the most important thing. And also, I want to help these guys out, just like older guys have helped me out.''

Why he's in Las Vegas with the team: "I need to practice, and I need to find my routine again.''

Being 32 this time around with the Aces, which makes him the oldest player on the club: "That could be a first. I don't think I've ever been the oldest on any team.
