Denali shuttle, camping reservations for next summer now being taken

Mike Dunham

Reservations for shuttle buses in Denali National Park and Preserve are now being taken for next summer. The buses will operate from May 20 to Sept. 12, 2013. Reservations can also be made for the park's four largest campgrounds, Riley Creek, Savage River, Teklanika River and Wonder Lake.

Bus fare for an adult remains the same as last year for Wonder Lake ($46) and Kantishna ($50). Prices to Toklat ($26.25) and Eielson Visitor Center ($33.50) are 50 cents less than last season. Camper bus fare, for campers in park campgrounds or with backcountry permits ($33.50), is also 50 cents less than last year.

The price reduction follows the resolution of unexpected contract and labor issues said park spokesperson Kris Fister.

Children 14 and under can ride for free on the shuttle buses. The young adult fare, half price for riders age 15-17, offered last year will not be available in 2013.

Fister said campground fees will remain the same as last year, $9-$28 depending on the campground and whether the camper is in a vehicle or a tent.

Reservations for both campgrounds and shuttle buses can be made on-line at www.reservedenali.com. Forms for fax reservations are also posted at that site and, when completed, should be faxed to 602-331-5258. Reservations can be made by calling 800-622-7275 nationwide or 907-272-7275, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Arizona time. Mail-in reservation requests can be sent to the park's transportation concessioner, ARAMARK/Joint Venture Reservations, 2805 E. Camelback Rd., Suite 240, Phoenix, AZ 85106.
