Police searching for 2 robbers in Thursday home invasion

Anchorage police are on the lookout for two men who burst into a Mountain View apartment Thursday and robbed a couple living there.

A light-skinned man with a handgun and a dark-skinned man with either a shotgun or rifle forced their way into the apartment in the 800 block of North Bliss Street about 2:20 p.m. Thursday, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said. One of the men struck a woman on the head with a gun, and the robbers stole a small amount of money, two cell phones and some jewelry, Myren said. They escaped in a vehicle, but the husband and wife living in the apartment, who called 911, were unable to get a description of the getaway vehicle, the police spokeswoman said.

Police officers rushed to the apartment, talked to neighbors and searched the immediate area, Myren said. They pulled over a car on First Avenue because the men inside matched the vague description police had of the robbers, she said. Officers learned the men had not been involved in the robbery, but one was arrested on an outstanding warrant, Myren said.

Myren said officers investigating the case are not releasing further information on the suspects' descriptions, including possible ages or whether they were wearing disguises. She said anyone with information on the robbery can call police at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
