Vikings beat UAA women for 11th straight win

The UAA women's basketball team lost to a hot team that produced two sizzling individual efforts Saturday night in Bellingham, Wash.

Western Washington, the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, used a triple-double from Trishi Williams and 25 points from Britt Harris to beat the Seawolves 83-72 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game.

The win was Western's 11th in a row and kept the Vikings (17-2 overall, 11-0 GNAC) undefeated in their own gym this season.

The loss ended a four-game road trip for UAA (10-9, 4-7). Freshman Jessica Madison sparked the Seawolves with 18 points and nine rebounds, both career highs.

A 3-pointer by UAA's Kylie Burns made it a one-possession game with 12 minutes, 39 seconds, left in the first half, but the Vikings went on a 9-3 run over the next four minutes to build a 24-15 lead point lead.

The Vikings led 39-25 at the half. UAA cut the lead to nine points on a couple of occasions in the second half, including 54-45 with 12:23 left when Alysa Horn scored the last of seven unanswered points.

Horn finished with 17 points, Sasha King furnished 16 and Jenna Buchanan added 10. Madison's night included 4 of 5 shooting and four offensive rebounds.

Harris, a senior center, pumped in 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting in the first half to carry the Vikings to a 39-25 halftime lead. For the night, she was 11 of 14.

Williams, a senior forward, racked up 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for the third triple-double in school history and the first since the 1994-95 season. She also had three steals.

Corinn Waltrip and Sydney Donaldson each scored 10 for Western Washington, which shot 53.3 percent.

UAA returns home this week for a Thursday GNAC game against Seattle Pacific.
