In 2008, the American Society of Testing Materials ( ASTM ) in the United States created a new test standard for oil skimmers, based on the complete system  –  skimmer, pump and powerpack (F2709). Recently Elastec/American Marine tested three skimmers to this new standard at the National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy Test Facility (OHMSETT), located at the Naval Weapons Station Earle Waterfront in Leonardo, NJ, USA. This is an independent test facility.

In January 2013, the United States Coast Guard acknowledged this new test standard and has issued Elastec/American Marine a letter officially recognizing the nameplate recovery rates obtained at Ohmsett  for the Magnum 100G, TDS136G and new X150.

This is the first time in several  years that the USCG has issued such a letter. This recognition authenticates the skimmers’ performance statements which is a significant fact that adds consumer confidence in the capabilities of the equipment.

The official USCG letter from Captain J.R. Caplis, Chief of the Office of Environmental Response, is attached.
