A fire started by a fish tank air pump damaged a Spenard apartment early Monday, the Anchorage Fire Department said in a news release.

No one was injured.

The AFD received a call at 7:39 a.m. from an alarm company alerting of a fire alarm at 1400 W 25th Avenue. Minutes later a 911 call came in from the same address, according to the AFD.

Firefighters on the scene didn't see smoke or flames coming from the building but once inside found heavy black smoke coming from an apartment on the second floor, said AFD spokesman Al Tamagni. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, which the release described as "minor."

The fire apparently started at an air pump behind a 50 gallon fish tank. The fish tank and stand were destroyed.

It's not known how many fish were inside the destroyed tank, Tamagni said.
